I hope everyone has a wonderful summer! What are you doing?
I am taking THREE classes to prepare myself for my new gig. I'm taking a class being taught by Mrs. Rogers, a former teacher here at NHS! I'm also taking an interesting class on Computer Composition for the Classroom. I am really looking forward to taking that one, it will utilize software programs that you purchase, as well as "freeware" that you find online! I'm hoping to put that to use in the classroom at the Middle School. The third class is about "inclusion" in the classroom.
Besides that, I hope to play a LOT of golf, and get some exercize.
My husband and I are going to Maine to a house on a lake for a week. Our intent there is to swim, fish, kayak and go golfing! oh..and RELAX!
I hope you all have a wonderful summer, share what YOU are doing!
Enjoy!

This is it!
Wow, we are really wrapping things up! Music is collected and filed, and I am in the process of moving my personal items out of the High School. 13 years is a long time to be collecting things! I have had a chance to look through 13 years of programs, and am very proud of the work that we did here at the HS, and at the MS.
Moving to a new position is always difficult, but exciting. I am working hard to learn some new things, and to make the General Music classes at the Middle School both educational and fun.
I wish Ms. Polak and the bands much luck and fun in the upcoming year, and will look forward to hearing them!
Have a great summer, keep playing and practicing!!!

Concert!
I am excited for our concert this Thursday, May 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the High School. This is going to be my last concert, due to my job change, and it is truly exciting, and a bit sad. I have been a band director for 30+ years...and I have mixed feelings about the "end of an era".
I hope you have all enjoyed your time with me in band, and would like to think that you all learned something along the way.
Keep playing, and have a GREAT concert!

Changes they're a' comin
Well, most, if not all, of you have heard by now that my job is going to change next year. After 13 years of being the Band Director in Norton (Started at High School and Middle School, then added beginners), I am going to be moving to the Middle School to teach General Music (Mrs. Schofield's old job).
I have such mixed feelings and emotions about the move, but I'm sure that it is all going to work out ok. I have been a band director SOMEWHERE for THIRTY years!!! This is going to be a BIG change!
I think back on all the great events I've participated in over the years! All the great times we had at UMass, our Symphony Trips, our competitions at MICCA festival and the Great East Festival.. I have such great memories.
But, there comes a time when we have to make some changes, and this, I guess is one of those times.
But here is how you can help me! Look back to your time in General Music class in Middle School, and tell me what you liked about it...and what you didn't! What would you have liked to have done more of? Less of?

Spring!
Hi All!
It has been a long time since my last posting, and so much is going on. I won't get into all that right now, but will just remind people that we have a LOT of stuff coming up in the next month or so...make sure you block out the dates!
Band members are reminded that we have the Memorial Day parade coming up! I checked with the Vets and the town, and the parade is definitely ON.
We will practice (grades 6-12 again!) on Tuesday May 12 and Tuesday May 19 from 5:30-7:00 at the HS. I hope you will all make an effort to be there. Remember, it is not so much making sure YOU know what to do, it is to get everyone to work together! These parades are so important, and show respect for our Veterans. The parade is Monday, May 25. We usually meet around 9am ,I'll verify that asap.
Then, the week after that are the MS and HS concerts:
Wednesday May 20- Middle School Concert (7pm)
Thursday May 21- High School Concert (7pm)
Graduation is Friday June 5! Keep that open as well!
Everything is going so FAST! :)

Music Appreciation Assignment
For my Music Appreciation class:
Please go to the edline page for Music Appreciation. You will find a bunch of web "links" on the right side for the Glencoe book. Please look at the Unit 1 links, and go to as many as you can and look around.
Come back to this blog and let me know what you found, and what you found interesting!
Please also let me know which links are "dead"...the book is older, so some of them may not work!
